Another method of hydrodeoxygenation of guaiacol to phenol can be done over Ceria supported iron catalysts. The researchers state that guaiacol can be transformed into phenol over a series of supported iron catalyst under atmospheric pressure. The experiment showed that with the support of CeO2, a linear relationship with iron up to 3 wt% corresponding to monolayer coverage was developed.
