Lamb and goat constitute low share of the global grassfed jerky demand, however, its demand is increasing at a rapid pace. One of the key exporters of grassfed sheep Oceania, exporting nearly 30% of sheep imports of Europe. Oceania accounts to nearly 70% of the global lamb exports in which share of New Zealand is nearly 44% of the trade.
Middle East and Africa is one of the largest grassfed sheep and goat meat consumers as regarded by halal tradition. Moreover, according to Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), the market of grassfed sheep meat is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3% in upcoming years.

Grassfed jerky brands often label the grassfed meat with properties like Non-GMO, organic and grassfed and certification approvals like kosher and halal that attracts more consumer and affects their willingness to pay a premium price. Labeled grassfed jerky demand has a significant portion of 1/4th in the U.S.
Over last decade halal grassfed meat has emerged out as a significant market, especially in Middle East region. Companies and ranches are now labeling their meat with halal certification to enter in the Middle East market. In 2019, overall halal meat and poultry demand was nearly 4X of the general grassfed beef category. These statistics also stand similar for grassfed jerky, although they are consumed less in the region.
Grassfed jerky is a premium product which is directly related to two notable factors in its supply chain. The first being inventory management logistics which includes expenditures made to store meat while shipping the carcasses to different locations around the world.

While regions where the production of grass-fed meat is quite economic like Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay due to availability of pasture land and environment, the post farm gate prices are likely to be high due to lower volume.

According to a study conducted by Power of Meat 2019, nearly 56% of the millennials are likely to buy food with label “Grassfed” creating a potential demand for companies to label their product.

In February 2020, New Zealand has seen nearly 40% fall in meat import from China, while according to USDA demand for beef and veal from China has fallen by nearly 10% in January 2020.
